Based in Seoul, GGGI is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization- with 49 Member States and over 29 countries and regional integration organization(s) in the process of accession - dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth “green growth” in developing countries and emerging economies. With operations in over 50 countries, GGGI serves the role of an enabler and facilitator of Members’ transition into a low-carbon green economy that is more resilient to climate change. We provide policy advice and technical support in the development of green growth plans, policies and regulations, mobilization of green investments, implementation of green growth projects, and development of local capacities and knowledge sharing impacting the lives of millions of people. We work on green investments, green entrepreneurship, implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, climate smart agriculture, e-mobility, LT-LEDs, National Adaptation Plans, green buildings, NDCs, and circular economies to name a few. GGGI has a diverse portfolio of country, regional, and global programs and projects around the world.
The Strategy and Communications Department is part of the Office of the Director – ODG – Division. Together with the Partnerships and Governance Department, the ODG Division supports the Director General (DG) with governance, partnerships, strategies, results, change management, communications, and advisory services. The ODG Division is both internal facing, in that it supports GGGI as whole to fulfil its strategic vision, and external facing in that it supports the DG in developing and maintaining relationships with partners and mobilize resources. The ODG Division ensures the DG is effectively supported to play his role as the 'global voice' for green growth.
PURPOSE
We are looking for a talented individual for the role of Communication and Knowledge Sharing Senior Officer, Media Relations, to work with us in the Communication and Knowledge Sharing Unit, in the Strategy and Communications Department, and support with efforts to promote the GGGI brand and tell our impact stories and externally through the utilization of the power of media. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of the Korean market, media landscape, and trends. The person will be responsible for crafting and executing media strategies, managing media relations and enhancing the GGGI’s brand presence across various platforms in Korea and beyond.
ENGAGEMENT
- Engage with GGGI global communication and knowledge sharing team members to share, shape and deliver effective and impactful communication and knowledge sharing initiatives.
- Engage with GGGI county, regional, and global programs to learn about their interventions and support external audience facing initiatives through media.
- Engage with media colleagues to promote GGGI’s green growth solutions around the world.
DELIVERY
- Lead GGGI’s Media Relations in Korea bybuilding and maintaining relationships with key media outlets and journalists. Develop media lists and relationships with journalists and editors including print, online, broadcast.
- Prepare media talking points and ensure GGGI results are linked and highlighted consistently.
- Develop the Director General’s media interactions and outreach pre, during, and post country missions and work with local COMKS team members to amplify GGGI’s profile during these trips.
- Manage media inquiries and proactively seek opportunities for media coverage. Pitch story ideas and coordinate media interviews, press releases, and other content. Prepare for media interviews
- Develop and localize content for press releases, blog posts, social media, and other communication materials.
- Monitor media coverage and online discussions to identify any potential issues or crises.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure all messaging is aligned with company goals and values. Develop specific media reactive and proactive lines.
- Monitor media coverage of GGGI and other leaders in the green growth and climate sectors.
- Create engaging content for digital and traditional media platforms that resonates with Korean audiences and support regional, country based teams to do the same in their context.
- Ensure consistent brand messaging across all communication channels.
- Provide regular media trainings and support to GGGI directors to successfully engage with media.
- Organize and manage press events, conferences, and media briefings. Ensure seamless communication and logistics for events involving key stakeholders.
- Act as the media lead for GGGI participation in HQ led major conferences i.e. COPs, both in ROK and globally.
- Monitor media coverage and track the effectiveness of communications strategies.
- Provide regular reports to senior management on communication metrics and media performance.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master’s degree in a relevant area in communications, media relations, behavior change communication, international relations and other relevant disciplines.
- Proven track record of successful media relationship management and success in media coverage.
- Seven years work experience in relevant areas including PR management and media relations.
- Demonstrates commitment and passion to climate change issues, green growth through their life choices, academic studies and paid/unpaid work experience.
- Knowledge of media analytics tools and ability to utilize data for decision making.
- Excellent written and spoken Korean and English.
FUNCTIONAL
- Sound understanding of and relation with key stakeholders in the Korean Media market.
- Track record of successful collaboration with Korean journalists and media outlets.
- Experience in working with global media outlets and ability to drive coverage.
- Demonstrates good communication and organizational skills and teamworking.
- Creative mind with good hands-on experiences with media, design, storytelling for wide range of audiences
- Excellent MS Office application, Adobe programs, and other communication applications and technologies that help develop creative communication materials, visuals, i.e. video, social media.
- The ability to undertake research and analyze data and apply this consistently for the development of communication initiatives. (Meltwater, and other analytics tools)
- Commitment to the integration of gender and social inclusion into communication and knowledge sharing interventions.
- Experience of living and/or working in multi-cultural contexts would be an advantage.
