CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the GGGI Ethiopia, Addis Ababa Office to support the overall Consultancy work on Sustainable Urban Transport Project for Ethiopia by proposing innovative solutions for electric Bus Rapid Transit (eBRT). It is anticipated that the Intern will be able to provide assistance on a range of activities which the project manager as well as the consulting firm are engaging with.

The assignment will include the following but not limited to:

  • Assisting the project manager and consulting firm through primary and secondary data collection for the planned BRT routes, including passenger volumes, origin-destination patterns, expected passenger demands on BRT routes, operating plan, licenses, ownership, electricity demand and summarizing results of collected data and write reports helpful for the preparation of public transport integration plan.
  • Assisting in the collection and updating of database files. create, update, and maintain project documents through an organized filing system and maintaining standard record system for tracking purposes.
  • Regularly communicate and disseminate information to concerned stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Supporting project activities with event and logistics arrangements
  • Assisting the project manager by providing meeting arrangement and managing calendar.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the project manager.
  • Support the Project Manager in coordinating and following up the day-to-day activities of the consulting firm and prepare online and in person sessions to conduct periodic review meetings.
  • Help the project manager review and provide inputs for key milestones and deliverables (Outputs) made against the consultancy’s timeline  
  • Compiling best practices, lessons learnt, experiences and stories on key thematic development areas (e.g. sustainable mobility strategies).
  • Provide support to the project’s workshops, conferences, where applicable.

 

QUALIFICATION

The suitable candidate should have a minimum of the following:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to Urban Planning and Management, Transportation Engineering or Related Studies
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English and Amharic is a requirement.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • 2 years of relevant work experience. Experience in an international organization working environment will be a plus.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

 

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin the internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation. 

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD$500 per month. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.  

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.  

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.  

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential all unpublished information obtained during the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.  

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.  

Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.
