GGGI has a diverse portfolio of programs in developing countries around the world. These in-country programs, together with global products and services, focus on delivering results through an integrated approach of evidence-based green growth planning and implementation aligned to countries’ development priorities. The organization also focuses on knowledge development and management activities which build a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policymakers; as well as building the conditions for public and private green infrastructure investments.
Within the Office of the Executive Director, GGGI has established the global initiatives unit to incubate emerging global-scale initiatives that align with GGGI’s green growth mandate. As part of this unit, GGGI has established a dedicated Data and AI team to lead the organization’s transition into a data-driven, digitally enabled institution. The Data and AI team will be responsible for shaping GGGI’s AI and data strategies, leading internal transformation initiatives, coordinating external partnerships, and positioning GGGI as a leader in “Environmentally Sustainable AI” applications.
POSITION SUMMARY
As part of the data and AI team, the Green AI Senior Associate contributes to the design, implementation, and quality assurance of data-driven and AI-enabled approaches across GGGI projects and programs.
Under the guidance of the Data/AI lead, the role provides technical expertise in developing analytical methodologies, digital monitoring systems, and data architectures that support climate project development, environmental monitoring, and evidence-based decision making.
Beyond the data/AI team, the position works closely with project teams, country offices, and external partners to ensure that data and AI solutions are effectively integrated into GGGI projects and knowledge platforms.
PURPOSE
The Green AI Senior Associate ensures the integration, consistency and methodological integrity of data and AI applications across projects and programs , helping ensure that GGGI effectively leverages digital innovation to improve project design and policy implementation. The role will support the project level design and implementation of sectoral green AI applications, and digital MRV systems that support climate action, across GGGI's portfolio.
Under the Data/AI lead s/he will also manage the alignment of methodologies and AI tools across internal workstreams, ensuring interoperability of data systems and coherence in analytical outputs.
ENGAGEMENT
The Green AI Senior Associate will collaborate with GGGI technical teams, country offices, and project leads to integrate data and AI approaches into project development and implementation,identifying issues impacting delivery, and working with them to find remedial solutions.
The role will also allow to build and sustain relations with external stakeholders including technology providers, research institutions, and other partners to support the evaluation and adoption of digital tools
The position communicates technical insights and analytical results to diverse stakeholders, including program teams, and external collaborators.
DELIVERY
The Green AI Senior Associate contributes through the following activities:
AI and Digital Innovation
- Identify, test and apply innovative digital tools and AI solutions that can enhance project delivery and impact.
- Support evaluate the application of AI and advanced analytics in climate and green growth programs/projects across different sectors including carbon markets, sustainable energy and mobility, climate smart agriculture etc.
- Assess and recommend emerging technologies relevant to environmental monitoring, digital MRV systems, and climate data platforms
Program Support
- Provide technical guidance to program teams applying data analytics or digital systems in project development.
- Contribute to analytical inputs for project preparation, feasibility analysis, and monitoring frameworks.
- Identify and resolve gaps in data systems, workflows and analytical methodologies to improve project delivery
Knowledge and Institutional Capacity
- Support the development of institutional data systems, knowledge platforms, and analytical tools .
- Support/organize internal capacity building on data analytics, AI tool adoption, and digital innovation.
- Strengthen organizational capability in applying data-driven approaches to climate and green growth projects.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Environmental Engineering, Statistics, or a related field. Advance degree (Master’s or equivalent, in related fields) is highly advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in environmental analytics, data science etc.
- Experience applying analytical or digital solutions in climate, infrastructure, energy, or sustainable development contexts is a plus.
- Experience working with international organizations, development programs, or applied research environments is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Good programming knowledge in Python or equivalent languages.
- Experience with data architecture, cloud platforms, or large-scale data systems.
Familiarity with emerging AI models/frameworksLanguages
- Fluency in English is required.
