The Carbon Finance Department (CFD) of GGGI is a global leader in Article 6 international carbon finance technical assistance, running programs since 2019. The department has a core team of 30 staff with a wider group of over 50 working on carbon finance across over 25 countries.

The department runs a number a programs and projects for a range of sovereign contributors across initial awareness raising to supporting transactions and fund management. Sectoral focus reaches from energy to blue carbon, with analysis in specific areas such as gender or economic modelling to support strategic decision making for trading at government level.

The Carbon Transaction Facility (CTF), a programmatic approach of the department to scaling up international carbon trading, was launched in 2024.
