INTRODUCTION TO GGGI

The Global Green Growth Institute internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. CURRENT OPPORTUNITY 

In Jordan, GGGI serves as an embedded strategic and technical advisor to the Government of Jordan, supporting the Ministry of Environment and other national institutions (line ministries, municipalities, and national finance institutions) with enhancing access to climate finance and achieving implementation of the Green Growth National Action Plan (GG-NAP) and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDCs). To achieve this objective, GGGI is currently implementing a growing portfolio of projects. This role will support the implementation of the Irish Aid-funded Emerald Green Employment Project as part of GGGI Jordan’s Green Employment portfolio. We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to work for the Jordan Country Office Team and provide substantive support to the program. The intern will support the development and delivery of environmental awareness and sustainable problem-solving green skills training and with organization of a participant environmental awareness raising competition and event. 

 
The assignment will include the following but not limited to: 

  • Support logistical coordination of training sessions. 

  • Support training delivery of environmental awareness and sustainable problem-solving green skills workshop as a co-facilitator, with regular travel within the country. 

  • Engage with various stakeholders and government officials to support day-to-day activities monitoring, communication, and coordination. 

  • Assist in developing communications materials and with competition coordination and event preparation. 

  • Support with data collection and reporting. 

  • Accompany project team when required to meetings and field visits. 

  • Perform other related duties as required. 

 

ELIGIBILITY  

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements: 

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months. 

  • Be recently engaged in an academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.  

  • Possess an excellent command of English.  

 

QUALIFICATION  
  • Academic or experience background in climate change, sustainable development, environmental policy/science or a related field preferred. 

  • Strong understanding of climate change and environmental challenges facing Jordan and ability to quickly learn various topics on sustainable development and green jobs. 

  • Be currently involved or have recently been involved in volunteer or paid work in facilitating training sessions. 

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills. 

  • English is the working language of GGGI. Excellent English communication skills, with English as the working language of GGGI. 

  • Proven computer literacy in standard office software applications, standard Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). 

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds. 

  • Legal residency in Jordan.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION 

Note that this is a full-time internship position expected to commence in December 2024. This role will be based in Amman but include extensive travel within Jordan. Project-based travel expenses for training delivery will be covered by the project. 

 

TEMRS AND CONDITIONS 

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.  

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.   

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location (Amman).   

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract. 

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.   

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.   

Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours of Jordan office. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly. 

Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern. 

Certificate: Provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
