The Legal Unit, led by the Principal Legal Counsel, provides legal advice to internal clients at HQ, country offices and management on administrative, contracting, operational and policy matters. This includes drafting and reviewing agreements with governments and other institutions, reviewing procurement contracts, advising on the application of GGGI's rules and regulations, and supporting due diligence, claims and disputes.
As GGGI continues to expand its operations, the volume of legal requests and transactions has increased significantly. In parallel, the Legal Unit is undertaking initiatives to review and update GGGI's internal legal framework, including policies, regulations, guidelines, and standard legal templates.To support these priorities and ensure the timely delivery of legal services across the organization, GGGI is therefore seeking a Legal Consultant to support the Legal Unit for a period of 12 months.
Objectives of the assignment
The objective of the assignment is to support the Legal Unit in providing timely and practical legal services across GGGI's global operations, while contributing to the maintenance and improvement of GGGI's legal framework.
Scope of Work
Under the supervision of the Principal Legal Counsel, the consultant will:
- Provide legal advice and support to HQ and country office teams on contractual, operational, administrative, and institutional matters.
- Draft and review agreements with governments and other institutions, such as memoranda of understanding, project implementation agreements, funding agreements and non-disclosure agreements.
- Review contracts relating to the procurement of goods, works and services, in coordination with Procurement.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda, briefing notes and other legal analyses.
- Support legal due diligence reviews and legal risk assessments relating to prospective partners and other counterparties.
- Review, draft, and update GGGI's policies, regulations, rules and guidelines, and other internal legal instruments.
- Support ongoing initiatives to update and improve GGGI's legal framework, including policies and procedures relating to ethics, integrity, whistleblowing, and conflicts of interest.
- Conduct legal benchmarking and comparative research on legal frameworks and practices of international organizations and comparable institutions.
- Review and update legal templates, standard clauses, guidance materials, and other legal resources used across the organization.
- Assist with the management of legal cases, claims and disputes.
- Undertake other tasks as assigned by the Principal Legal Counsel.
Expertise required
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in Law (LLB, JD, LLM, or equivalent);
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional legal experience;
- Experience drafting and reviewing agreements and contracts;
- Experience in drafting and reviewing policies, regulations, guidelines, and governance documents.
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken); and
- Experience working in/with an international organization is a plus.
