INTRODUCTION
The Global Green Growth Institute internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. We encourage qualified women and men, in particular, nationals of developing countries, with diverse professional, academic, and cultural backgrounds to apply.
CURRENT OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a talented individual to work with the Philippines Country Team on the design of a green finance monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) system for a local financing vehicle (LFV) under the EU–Philippines Green Economy Partnership Programme.
The LFV aims to channel sustainable finance to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across priority green sectors, including circular economy (e.g. plastic recycling), climate-smart agriculture (e.g. biochar and organic inputs), renewable energy, energy efficiency, water management and climate adaptation initiatives. A digital platform is being developed to serve as the operational backbone for the LFV, enabling MSMEs to apply for green loans and report project performance while providing financial institutions and development partners with real-time impact data.
The intern will support the development of the KPI/MRV infrastructure of this platform, including green eligibility and impact indicators, automated data pipelines, and monitoring dashboards that can generate verifiable green finance data for use by financial institutions, corporates and development partners.
The assignment will include the followings but not limited to:
- Contribute to the design of sector-specific KPI and green eligibility frameworks for MSME loans, aligned with international sustainable finance taxonomies (e.g. IFC, ASEAN, Philippine taxonomies)
- Support the development of simplified MSME data collection protocols, including app-based forms, validation rules and basic verification requirements (e.g. document uploads)
- Develop Python/R scripts for cleaning, validating and transforming MSME-reported data into standardized green impact metrics (e.g. tCO2e avoided, MWh generated/saved, m³ water recycled, tonnes of waste diverted)
- Assist in setting up a basic spatial and DNSH (Do No Significant Harm) tagging system, aligned with GGGI’s Environmental and Social Safeguards System, using publicly available hazard and location data at municipality level, to strengthen the credibility of green data
- Contribute to the design of a green performance scoring approach that links project eligibility, verified impact and repayment behavior to potential incentive mechanisms (e.g. interest rebates, improved terms)
- Support the preparation of a prototype monitoring dashboard (e.g. in Power BI or R Shiny) that aggregates loan- and portfolio-level green indicators and can be used as the basis for a premium SaaS reporting productHelp draft technical notes, user manuals and training materials documenting methodologies, assumptions and operational procedures for use by programme staff and financial institution partners
