The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. We encourage qualified women and men, in particular, nationals of developing countries, with diverse professional, academic, and cultural backgrounds to apply.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented individual to work with GGGI’s Pacific team to support research, knowledge development, policy analysis, and communications across the Pacific Sustainable Transport portfolio.

GGGI is supporting three GEF-funded e-mobility projects in the Pacific, implemented in partnership with national governments and supported by UNEP as the implementing agency. While the projects focus on accelerating the transition to electric mobility, they also provide an important opportunity to examine wider development questions linked to economic transformation, energy security, transport affordability, jobs and skills, public finance, private sector participation, social inclusion, gender, urban development, and climate resilience.

The internship will support the translation of project implementation, technical studies, field engagement, and stakeholder consultations into practical knowledge products and communication outputs. The intern will help generate evidence and insights that connect e-mobility with broader national and regional development priorities, including the economics of transition, green jobs, financing models, policy reform, consumer behavior, and the role of transport electrification in reducing exposure to imported fossil fuel volatility.

The intern will work under the guidance of the Senior Officer – Sustainable Transport and in close collaboration with country project teams, consultants, and relevant stakeholders. The role is intended to provide a learning opportunity for a motivated student or recent graduate interested in applied development work at the intersection of economics, climate change, public policy, finance, social change, and sustainable infrastructure.

The assignment will include the following, but is not limited to:

  • Support applied research on the development implications of e-mobility in Pacific Small Island Developing States, including links to energy security, fuel import dependency, household and business transport costs, public transport systems, urban mobility, climate action, and economic resilience.
  • Conduct desk research and prepare analytical notes on topics such as the economics of the e-mobility transition, green jobs and skills development, financing models for EV adoption, EV charging business models, public finance implications, fiscal incentives, and private sector participation.
  • Support the preparation of policy briefs, issue notes, blogs, talking points, and knowledge products that connect project activities with wider country priorities and emerging policy debates.
  • Assist in conducting field work and documenting field-level insights from Fiji, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu, including stakeholder perspectives, user experiences, institutional challenges, market readiness, and practical barriers to e-mobility adoption.
  • Support the development of communications content, including blogs, social media posts, short video concepts, human-interest stories, project snapshots, and outreach material that explain the relevance of e-mobility for sustainable development in the Pacific.
  • Track and analyze emerging issues relevant to the portfolio, including fuel price volatility, electricity tariffs, public transport reform, urban congestion, climate commitments, budget pressures, gender inclusion, youth employment, and technology adoption.
  • Assist in preparing background material for outreach events, workshops, consultations, webinars, and public engagement activities linked to the e-mobility projects.
  • Support knowledge management across the three-country portfolio, including organizing research findings, project data points, photographs, stakeholder inputs, media material, and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to comparative analysis across Fiji, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu to identify common challenges, country-specific opportunities, and potential regional lessons for scaling e-mobility in Small Island Developing States.
  • Support the team in identifying opportunities to strengthen the visibility, policy relevance, and development impact of the e-mobility portfolio through strategic research, communications, and stakeholder engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
  • Possess an excellent command of English.

QUALIFICATION
  • Academic background in economics, public policy, development studies, international development, climate change, finance, urban planning, transport, energy, communications, or another field relevant to GGGI’s work.
  • Strong interest in sustainable development, climate action, green growth, economic transition, and development challenges in Small Island Developing States.
  • Good analytical and research skills, including the ability to synthesize information from reports, datasets, policy documents, interviews, and consultations.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear and accessible summaries, briefs, blogs, and communication material for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Interest in applied policy work and the ability to connect technical project activities with broader development, economic, social, and institutional issues.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to support multiple workstreams across different country contexts.
  • Familiarity with the Pacific region, e-mobility, climate finance, energy transition, transport policy, or green jobs would be an advantage.
  • Experience with communications, video content, graphic material, interviews, data visualization, or social media content development would be an advantage.
  • Must have access to a personal laptop.

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.
